Here’s the thing about the Clemens situation. Everyone is saying McNamee is credible because he has no reason to lie. But think about this. What would the Mitchell report have been without Clemens’ name? He was the only super star named that hadn’t already been connected to steroids. Without Clemens the Mitchell report is a joke. We were promised big names and we got one. So is it all that implausible that investigators pressured McNamee into revealing big names? Come on, you injected Clemens didn’t you? McNamee gave them what they were looking for and he got immunity. That seems like plenty of reason to lie to me. As for the 60 minutes appearance, yeah, Clemens said some pretty strange and stupid things but being inarticulate doesn’t translate into being guilty.

Maybe I’ve seen too many cop movies (and the Pettitte confession is still rather damning) but I’m inclined to believe Clemens, especially without any actual evidence against him.
