The qualities I find attractive in women
being smart being funny being caring being a cute lesbian being a fictional character in a TV show being married being a stranger walking past me being the singer of the song I’m listening to being Selma Blair or Tina Fey being a good listener …wait, what trend? I don’t see it.

Michael Showalter | The A.V. Club →
Great interview with Michael Showalter. I very much share his taste in comedy as explained on the 3rd page. I like silly things. I think that “silly-stupid” or “stupid-smart” might be my philosophy, which is to combine a veneer of intelligence with an undercurrent of crass stupidity.

I’ve come up with a New Years Resolution! I haven’t been drinking Coke for the last month and it feels so much better. I actually haven’t been able to bring myself to drink it, even when it would be nice/convenient. I just imagine it dissolving my teeth and giving me headaches. I think I’m going to give up high-fructose soda for good. — david I’ve...

MRTV #4 on YouTube
Since there seems to be demand for it, I finally uploaded MRTV #4 to YouTube. The reason I haven’t been keeping up with it is that it requires an extra annoying step to create the movie file. Vimeo takes our 16:9 video with no problems. YouTube still only accepts 4:3 material despite the growing trend towards 16:9. This means that when I upload our 16:9 MPEG to YouTube it stretches it to fit...

Oh Sweet Relief
I finally missed a day posting to the new Tumblr blog. I had a streak going. One post for every day of 2008. It got to the point where I would post something just to keep the streak alive. But yesterday I failed. It ended. And honestly… I couldn’t be happier. Now there’s no pressure to keep the streak up. I actually think it was a bad thing. Tumblr makes it drastically too easy...

Maybe it’s because I’ve been drinking but I also really enjoyed all 6 of these Jason Batement & Michael Cera promos for Juno (see more on right side). God I miss Arrested Development.

Red Sox fans will have to get up early to watch the World Series champions start their title defense. The major league season opener against the Oakland Athletics in Tokyo will start at 6:07 a.m. EDT on March 25, the Red Sox said Wednesday. I am so gonna wake up at 6am, watch the entire game, then go to work. (story)

Recap of My Steroids Debate in NYC →
Radley Balko of Reason recaps his steroids debate in NYC. He is arguing that steroids should be allowed in sports and that their effects and side effects are vastly over-stated. I’m very interested in learning more about this, seems like there’s an awful lot of overreaction and fear mongering going on.

About 20 items from the last 2 weeks appeared all at once in the RSS feed due to a problem with the transition to Tumblr. Whoops! Won’t happen again. (Thankfully they’re all super fun and interesting so get reading!)

The Internet
Why is it that when smart, informed technology people need to say “the internet” they always substitute a more self-aware joke version like “interweb,” “internets,” “intertubes” or “infotubes”? Or a phrase so verbose and formal that it mocks itself (“the information superhighway,” “the world wide web” etc.)....

Here’s the thing about the Clemens situation. Everyone is saying McNamee is credible because he has no reason to lie. But think about this. What would the Mitchell report have been without Clemens’ name? He was the only super star named that hadn’t already been connected to steroids. Without Clemens the Mitchell report is a joke. We were promised big names and we got one. So is...

Brown Bag Tip
Instead of going through the tedious (and depressing) chore of assembling the week’s lunches on Sunday night, bring a pound of sliced turkey, some swiss cheese and a loaf of bread to work. Keep them in the fridge. Assemble the sandwich at work when you want it. It’ll taste fresher and won’t waste your precious “at home time.” For additional fun: Use a thumb tack to...

Best Movies of 2008
Compiling my annual “best of” movie list was weird because I had no idea what I was going to list until I went through all the ticket stubs I saved. Ebert on There will be Blood: “There Will Be Blood” is the kind of film that is easily called great. I am not sure of its greatness. It was filmed in the same area of Texas used by “No Country for Old Men,” and that is a great film, and a perfect one. But “There Will Be Blood” is not perfect, and in its imperfections (its unbending characters, its lack of...

Japanese Bug Fights
I simply couldn’t not link to this. JapaneseBugFights.com is a site that shows video of bug death matches. Two random bugs in a box, trying to kill each other. What makes me hesitate to link to it is how vile I find it. I hate bugs. Most of these videos prompt the gag reflex. Morally I don’t think I really care too much, because they’re bugs, but there is something more...
